Life

In 1853 (at the beginning of the Crimean War ) Hüseyin became an officer in the General Staff under Omar Pascha . During the war he was promoted to colonel and turned with Omar Pasha to the Abkhazian coast and took part in the battle of the Ingur . He was then promoted to Liwa ( Brigadier General ).

In the war with Montenegro he began as a division general , but was soon recalled and placed at the head of the College of War Ministers. In 1864 Hüseyin was appointed Muschir ( Field Marshal ), Commander of the Guard Army Corps and Deputy Seraskier ( Minister of War ). When Fuad Pasha was overthrown in 1866, Hüseyin Pasha was also retired and only used again in 1867 against the intruders on Crete . After a short stopover as commander of the observation corps on the border with Greece , he soon returned to Crete as generalissimo , where he completely crushed the uprising .

Hüseyin was appointed Minister of War and now carried out his long-cherished plans for a reorganization of the army of the Ottoman Empire . After the death of Grand Vizier Ali Pasha in September 1871, he too lost his position as Minister of War and was banished to his homeland for several months.

After Midhat Pasha had become Grand Vizier in 1872 , Hüseyin returned to Constantinople and was appointed Grand Vizier himself in February 1874. He held this post until April 25, 1875. He was then sent to Izmir to serve as Governor General of Aydın Province . Between August 25, 1875 and October 1, he was again Minister of War and then went to Bursa as Governor General in the Hüdavendigar Province .

On May 11, 1876, Hüseyin took over the War Ministry again and played a leading role in the dismissal of Sultan Abdülaziz on the night of May 29th to 30th. The hatred of the supporters of the deposed Sultan was now directed most violently against Hüseyin Pasha. On the evening of June 15, 1876, during a ministerial meeting in the house of Midhat Pasha , he was murdered by Abdülaziz's brother-in-law, the Circassian Hasan Bey .
