Habib Al-Naufali

Habib Hormuz Al-Naufali (born May 5, 1960 in Baqofa , Ninawa , Iraq ) is the Chaldean Catholic Archbishop of Bassora .

Life

Habib Al-Naufali initially studied at the University of Mosul . He then entered the seminary of the Patriarchate of Babylon and studied Catholic theology and philosophy at Babel College in Baghdad . Al-Naufali received on 29 June 1998, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

From 1999 to 2003 Habib Al-Naufali was pastor of the parish of St. George in Baghdad. He was also director of the library at Babel College and an attorney at the ecclesiastical court of the Patriarchate. In 2003, Al-Naufali became the head of the Chaldean Catholic Mission in London .

The Synod of Bishops of Chaldean Catholic Bishops elected him Archbishop of Bassora. Pope Francis approved his election as Archbishop of Bassora on January 11, 2014. The Chaldean Catholic Patriarch of Babylon , Louis Raphaël I. Sako , donated him as well as Yousif Thomas Mirkis OP and Saad Sirop the episcopal ordination on January 24 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Curia Bishop in the Patriarchate of Babylon, Shlemon Warduni , and the Latin Archbishop of Baghdad , Jean Benjamin Sleiman OCD .
