Yousif Thomas Mirkis OP (born June 21, 1949 in Mosul , Iraq ) is the Chaldean Catholic Archbishop of Kirkuk-Sulaimaniya .

Life

Yousif Thomas Mirkis first studied at the Saint Jean seminary in Mosul. He then went to France for further studies . There Mirkis joined the Dominican order . At the University of Strasbourg , he was in the subject Catholic Theology doctorate and he also graduated from the University of Paris-Nanterre , a diploma in the subject Ethnology . Mirkis received on 26 March 1980, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

1989 Yousif Thomas Mirkis co-founder of the theological and philosophical faculty of Babel College in Baghdad . From 1989 to 2001 he was a professor at Babel College . In addition Mirkis was from 1994 to 2000 Superior of the Convent of the Dominicans in Baghdad. In 1995 he became director of the magazine Al-Fiker Al-Masihi and Al Nasira . In 2006 Yousif Thomas Mirkis founded the Academy for Human Sciences in Baghdad . He is a member of the International Catholic Association of the Press .

The Synod of Bishops of Chaldean Catholic Bishops elected him Archbishop of Kirkuk. Pope Francis approved his election as Archbishop of Kirkuk on January 11, 2014. The Chaldean Catholic Patriarch of Babylon , Louis Raphaël I. Sako , donated him as well as Habib Al-Naufali and Saad Sirop the episcopal ordination on January 24 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Curia Bishop in the Patriarchate of Babylon, Shlemon Warduni , and the Latin Archbishop of Baghdad , Jean Benjamin Sleiman OCD .
