The Hainbach is a brook in Vienna and Lower Austria . It is a left tributary of the Mauerbach .
course
The Hainbach has a length of 4090 m with a height difference of 209 m. Its catchment area is 3.8 km².
The stream runs in a north-south direction through the Hadersdorf part of Vienna's 14th district of Penzing . It rises north of the Sophienalpe and passes the Hinterhainbach settlement . It flows along the Sophienalpenstrasse, which it crosses several times. Finally, it runs along the border with the Lower Austrian market town of Mauerbach , before flowing into the Mauerbach on the left at the Vorderhainbach settlement .
At the Hainbach there is a low risk of flooding. In the event of a flood of the century , the infrastructure and the resident population are affected to a lesser extent.
ecology
The brook serves as spawning water for common frogs ( Rana temporaria ) and agile frogs ( Rana dalmatina ). In addition, striped swell maids ( Cordulegaster bidentata ) were detected. The rare stone crab ( Austropotamobius torrentium ) was resettled in the Hainbach in 1991. After the initial success of the project, further resettlements followed in the Vienna Woods Streams Eckbach , Steinbach and Halterbach . In the Hainbach, the population decreased again later, probably because of cancer plague .
The wood on the banks is characterized by fine and soft wood . Two problematic invasive plants on the Hainbach are the Japanese knotweed and the glandular balsam .
