Halis Burhan

Halis Burhan (* 1933 in Petekli, Sürmene , Trabzon Province ) is a former Turkish general in the air force (Hava Kuvetleri) , who was last commander of the air force between 1992 and 1995 .

Life

Burhan completed his elementary and secondary education in Erzurum and at the renowned Kuleli Military Cadet Institute (Kuleli Askerî Lisesi) . In 1953 he began his officer training at the Air Force School ( Hava Harp Okulu ) , which he completed in 1955 as an ensign (Asteğmen) . After his pilot training in Canada , he was on August 29, 1957 pilot of the 143rd Squadron in Merzifon 44th Flying Group and 1960 pilot of a fighter aircraft at the 1st Air Force Base in Eskişehir . He was then a graduate of the Air Force Academy (Hava Harp Akademisi) from September 20, 1965 to August 15, 1967 and was then employed as a training officer in the personnel department at the headquarters of the air force before he became an officer in the operations department of the 9th Air Force Base in Balıkesir in 1968 . Subsequently, from August 21, 1969 to August 30, 1970, he was in command of the 192nd Squadron belonging to the 9th Air Force Base and was then seconded to the headquarters of the Allied Air Forces of NATO AIRSOUTH (Allied Air Forces South Europe) in Naples for two years .

After his return to Turkey, Burhan became an operations planning officer in the operations department at the Air Force Headquarters on September 17, 1972 and then served as head of the operations planning department there between 1973 and 1975, before becoming head of the operations department of the 1st Air Force on August 30, 1975. Air Force base and two years later on August 29, 1977 he became Secretary General at the Air Force Headquarters.

On August 30, 1978, Burhan was promoted to Brigadier General (Tuğgeneral) and appointed commander of the 1st Air Force Base. From August 21, 1980 to August 30, 1982, he was deputy head of the personnel department at the headquarters of the Air Force, and between 1980 and 1981 he was also deputy head of the operations department there. After his promotion to major general (Tümgeneral) on August 30, 1982, he acted between 1982 and 1984 as head of the personnel department at the headquarters of the air force and then from 1984 to 1986 as deputy commander of the 2nd Tactical Air Force Command (2nd Tactic Hava Kuvveti Komutanlığı) in Diyarbakır .

Burhan became lieutenant general (co- general ) on August 30, 1986 and was initially chief of the air force staff and then from 1988 to 1990 commander of the 1st Tactical Air Force Command (1st Tactics Hava Kuvveti Komutanlığı) in Eskişehir . Then he was promoted to Deputy Vice-Chief of the General Staff (Genelkurmay II. Başkan Yardımcılığı) on August 20, 1990 and as such on August 30, 1990 also to General (Orgeneral) . On August 23, 1991 he became deputy commander of the Air Force.

Most recently, General Burhan was on August 20, 1992 as the successor to General Siyami Taştan, Commander of the Air Force. He held this post until his retirement on August 30, 1995 and was subsequently replaced by General Ahmet Çörekçi .

Burhan, who is married and has two children, speaks not only Turkish but also English . For his services he was honored with the Medal of the Turkish Armed Forces for Outstanding Services (Türk Silahlı Kuvetleri Üstün Hizmet Madalyası) .
