Halo Wars is a real-time strategy game and is set before the original Halo series. It was released in Germany on February 27, 2009, exclusively for the Xbox 360 . On December 20, 2016, Halo Wars: Definitive Edition was released for Windows and Xbox One.
Plot and course of the game
The story takes place in 2531, around 20 years before the actual Halo story, initially on the planet Harvest, where the Alliance was first sighted five years earlier. After the planet has been retaken, the supply and colony ship Spirit of Fire is sent to Harvest for renewed alliance activities. It quickly becomes clear that the alliance is looking for a so-called "blood father relic". Led by Sergeant Forge, the Marines capture the relic that the Alliance wanted to blow up. Captain James Gregory Cutter then sends Professor Ellen Anders, an expert on exobiological civilizations, to the excavation site. It turns out to be a card room. The Alliance, under the leadership of Lord Ripa 'Moramee, tried to kill the people in the relic, but they did not succeed.
After analyzing the maps, Anders realized that it was the indicated colony of Arcadia and that this would probably be the Alliance's next target. When the Spirit of Fire entered the orbit of Arcadia, two Alliance cruisers were already in orbit and had knocked out two of the four human ships stationed there, one of the ships that was not destroyed was the Pillar of Autumn. The Alliance had launched an invasion of the planet and was trying to wipe out the inhabitants. Cutter then tried to evacuate the capital Pirth and, under Forge's direction, at least some colonists managed to escape from the planet. After retreating from the city center, Forge managed to stop and push back the advance of the Alliance with the help of the SPARTAN-II Team Red - a team that consisted of genetically manipulated soldiers. After the defeat in the capital, the Alliance erected a shield dome in a swampy outer area of the city. With the help of some modified Rhino tanks, humans were able to shoot a hole in the dome and penetrate inside. There the Alliance built an improved version of the already destructive Scarab, a huge, spider-like robot, to regain the upper hand in battle. In the meantime, a spiritual leader of the Alliance, the Prophet of Regret, from a base on an unknown planet from the master gave the order to kidnap Anders, because she was the key to an invading army of blood-father warships, since only she could activate these ships . Forge managed to destroy the Scarab before it could be completed. When Forge and Anders were investigating the site, the master suddenly attacked both of them. In the duel against Forge, the master won, but before he could kill Forge, Anders surrendered voluntarily. Since Anders had important information about weapon technology and the locations of the colonies, Cutter and Team Rot decided, without the admiral's consent, to pursue the fleeing Alliance ship.
After exiting hyperspace, you landed in the orbit of a hitherto unknown planet. The artificial intelligence Serina was able to detect the transponder signal from Anders. However, Cutter wanted to establish a base on the planet first. After a battle with several Brutes, contact with two patrols on the surface suddenly breaks off. Forge and Team Red find a new species on the planet called Flood. The Flood are described as a parasitic life form that is extremely aggressive and able to take over and control the bodies of other beings. After securing the base, Team Red is caught by the heavy resistance of the Flood. It turns out that Anders' signal is being mimicked by a central intelligence, a Proto-Gravemind, to get more hosts. After the being's destruction, Anders' correct signal appears. The Spirit of Fire followed the signal, but it appeared to be below the surface of the planet's water. Suddenly Serina receives several orders from an unknown AI and the ship is pulled into a hole that lies under a large body of water. After the Spirit has evacuated the last troops from the planet, it is pulled through a kind of docking system and examined by unknown machines, the guards. Sergeant Forge is to eliminate the flood that were on the hull of the ship.
After that, the Spirit of Fire was able to come out of the other side of the docking system, but then found itself trapped inside the planet in a kind of micro-Dyson sphere, a so-called "shield world", which was created by the Blood Fathers. As they left the docking system, they met an Alliance cruiser in which the Prophet of Regret was taking refuge. The ship damaged the Spirit on the port side. Meanwhile, the Alliance tried to board the Spirit of Fire with their Spirit transporters. When they failed, the master used Anders to activate the Blood Fathers fleet. Anders manages to escape after activation and was saved from the flood on the surface of Forge. After establishing a base, Captain Cutter, Serina and Team Rot decided to use the FTL reactor to blow up the artificial sun of the sphere and thus destroy the fleet and the flood. At the entrance of the elevator to the sun, which was located in the base where the prophet gave the order to kidnap Anders, Forge and the SPARTANs are attacked by the master and some elites. Forge, seriously injured, can kill the master in a duel. The core is badly damaged, so Forge decides to ignite the core itself. The SPARTAN Red Team and several Marines and ODSTs (Orbital Drop Shock Troopers) had to open a portal within half an hour so that the Spirit could escape from the shield world. They could open the portal, but the sun's gravitational field had expanded so much that the Spirit of Fire could no longer easily flee the planet. Shortly after a very daring maneuver, which catapults the Spirit around the collapsing star and hurls it out of the portal, the planet explodes. A few weeks later, Cutter wrote out some recommendations for the soldiers and asks Anders to go to cryo-sleep with most of the crew. Then you can see the ship flying towards home, although it will probably take decades to reach Earth without the FTL core. Either it was destroyed by Alliance ships on the way home or they haven't arrived yet but are still alive.
