Hamish Peacock (born October 15, 1990 in Hobart ) is an Australian javelin thrower .

Athletic career

Hamish Peacock gained his first international experience at the Youth World Championships 2007 in Ostrava , where he won the silver medal behind the Finn Tuomas Laaksonen with 76.31 m . In 2008 he took part in the Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz , Poland , where he finished fifth with 74.44 m. Only five years later he qualified again for an international championship, namely the World Championships in Moscow , where he was eliminated with 76.33 m in qualification. In 2014 he took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow for the first time and won the bronze medal there with 81.75 m. In 2015 he qualified again for the World Championships in Beijing , where 79.37 m were again not enough for a final .

In 2016 he took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and missed the final there with 77.91 m , as well as at the 2017 World Championships in London , where he was eliminated from the qualification with a width of 82.46 m . In April 2018 he again took part in the Commonwealth Games in his native Gold Coast and won the silver medal behind the Indian Neeraj Chopra with 82.59 m .

In 2013 and from 2016 to 2018 Peacock was the Australian javelin champion. He is a civil engineering student at the University of Tasmania . His younger brother Huw Peacock is also a track and field athlete.
