In the handball GDR League of Women won in the season 1986/87 , the BSG locomotive Rangsdorf the season North and made the chances of promotion to the Handball DDR Oberliga . In the season south, the second representation of SC Leipzig won over that of SC Magdeburg . Since second teams were not eligible for promotion, the third in the table rose to BSG Blaue Schwerter Meissen as an absolute newcomer to the House of Lords.

North season

Unbeaten, the company sports community (BSG) Lokomotive Rangsdorf secured the relay victory and immediately rose again to the handball GDR league . Only in the penultimate game at BSG FIKO Rostock was the only minus point given. The BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt and the BSG Aufbau / Chemie Schwerin competed as promoters from the handball GDR district league. Eisenhüttenstadt managed to stay in the league, although this only succeeded in the relegation against the second representation of Sachsenring Zwickau from the southern season. Schwerin was relegated to the district league after only one year and was accompanied by BSG Schiffselektronik Rostock after a two-year guest appearance.

Season south

The second representation of the SC Leipzig secured the relay victory before that of the SC Magdeburg . Due to a defeat in the penultimate game at BSG Wismut Schneeberg, the Leipzig women gave up their only minus points. Since second representations were not eligible for promotion, the third placed BSG Blaue Schwerter Meissen rose as an absolute newcomer to the handball GDR league . With the Turn- und Sportgemeinschaft (TSG) Calbe , the relegated from the major league came in ninth place. Of the three newcomers from the district league, only the second representative of Halloren Halle was able to keep the class with a fourth place. The second representation from Sachsenring Zwickau , which lost in the relegation to Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt, like BSG Motor Leipzig West, was relegated to the third class after only one year and was accompanied by the HSG TU Dresden after a three-year guest appearance.
