The East German handball championship of the women was with the season 1985/86 held for the 36th time. The ASK forward Frankfurt / O. defended his title from the previous year without losing points and won her fourth championship. After only one season, the two newcomers Lokomotive Rangsdorf and TSG Calbe had to leave the upper house again.
The top scorer was Kerstin Rast from SC Magdeburg with 115 goals (43 of them seven meters ) .
