Final (hall)

(February 18, 1961)

BSG Lokomotive Rangsdorf - SC progress Weissenfels 7: 6 (4: 1)

In front of the almost sold-out hall, the Rangsdorf players strived for success in a sober and unspectacular manner from the start, tactically cleverly set up by their coach. Edith Noack reliably fulfilled her assignment to disrupt the Weißenfelser ball passages. The development players around Gehring eliminated their opponents with pressing, and Ingrid Schenatzky skillfully tied the threads. With a skillful counter-game, the Rangsdorf team had success on their side. With speed advances, a 3-0 lead was thrown out within six minutes. Progress Weißenfels had to cope with the handicap from the start that their goalkeeper Martina Maudrich was not able to play. Their representative Hildegard Förster could not replace them equally, did not give the team the sure support. But also their teammates did not show the usual form, ball losses occurred again and again. Only the national player Inge Schanding showed her expected skills and caused tension again in the final phase when she was able to reduce the 3: 7 deficit to 6: 7. But Rangsdorf was able to defend this score until the final whistle and thus secured the GDR championship in the hall for the second time after 1956.

Endgame (field)

(September 30, 1961)

SC Progress Weissenfels - SC Rotation Berlin 7: 3 (4: 2)

Surprisingly, the blatant underdog Rotation took the lead with a goal by Marlies Biener against the six-time title holder. But the goal, untenable for Martina Maudrich after a deception, worked like a wake-up call at Weißenfels. With quick combinations over two or three stations, the end was sought, while the Berliners usually needed more stops. The game of the Berlin women was technically equal, but the moves were too cumbersome. Surprisingly, the uncertainties in the rotation defense, it burned brightly every time, the Weißenfels players set to attack. Outstanding player on the field was the Weißenfelserin Inge Schanding, who ran into great form and with four hits became the most successful thrower of the game. Next to her, teammate Erika Quarg shone, who also made the rotation coverage in great excitement. On the Berlin side, only goalkeeper Krause could convince, who kept the defeat at a bearable level.
