Handball GDR Oberliga (women) 1963/64

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the 1963/64 season, the name Handball-GDR-Oberliga der Frauen had finally prevailed. The GDR champions in indoor and field handball were determined between October 1963 and September 1964 . In the GDR Oberliga Frauen, the relay winners were determined in each sport with 20 teams each in a double round in two relays, who played off the respective champions in the final. From the 1964/65 season, the indoor championship was reduced to one season, so that in 1963/64 only the first five teams of a season qualified for the new season.

Endgame - hall

(February 9, 1964)

BSG progress Weißenfels - SC Empor Rostock 9: 4

Even in the new edition of last year's final, Progress Weissenfels was not surprised and won the 15th championship title. The Rostock players made it easy for their opponents because they largely left the initiative to them. At Weißenfels, national player Inge Schanding was again the focal point and ensured a quick decision. After a quarter of an hour the defending champion was 5-2 in the front. The Rostock women tried to achieve success with speed play, but did not find the right means against the attentive defense of BSG Progress. In addition, the steep passes of their goalkeeper Zachwieja hardly ever found a buyer. The Ostseestädterinnen only had the chance to turn the game around for a short time when they came up to 4: 6 and Quarg from Weißenfels had to go to the penalty box. But while the Rostockerin Große missed the opportunity to hit the next goal, it was again Inge Schanding who gave the signal for the final chord. With their goal to 7: 4 they brought Weißenfels on the safe side, and since Rostock did not succeed in another hit, the BSG women went undisputed to 9: 4 victory.

Endgame - field

(September 27, 1964)

SC Empor Rostock - SC Leipzig 8: 2

After the lost final in the hall, the Rostock women made it better on the field and won the first handball championship in their fifth final. With clever attacking tactics and consistent wing play, they ensured a superiority from the start that the Leipzig women had nothing to oppose. Their defense played too homely with funds borrowed from indoor handball. They curled up in their own half and made disheartened hardly any attempt to disturb the opposing players. The most conspicuous player on the field was Ingrid Lemke from Rostock in her last game for SC Empor, assisted by her playful co-men Baumann and Große. But since there were no other failures in the ranks of the Baltic city women, SC Leipzig had no chance that afternoon.

Rostock: Eva Biemann - Thiedemann, Apel; Dittmann, miner, Kikilus; Jäger, Bärbel Große (1), Ingrid Lemke (4), Marlen Baumann (3), Soldan - substitute: Karin Sorge

Leipzig: Hannelore Zober - Monika Mühlheim, Helga Kermes; Rita Zimmermann, cousin, Christa Hülßner; Tennert, Weide, Christine Irmer, Maria Rüdrich (1), Renate Kriegel (1) - Substitutes: Steffi Beuther
