The East German handball championship of the women was with the season 1980/81 held for the 31st time. The championship was for the first time SC Magdeburg , they only lost a game at defending champion TSC Berlin . After only one season, the two newcomers Umformtechnik Erfurt and Chemie PCK Schwedt had to leave the upper house again. The top scorer was Katrin Krüger from ASK Vorwärts Frankfurt / O. with 149 goals (including 74 seven meters ) .
