Hanna Jazmin Jaff Bosdet (born November 4, 1986 in San Diego ) is an American-born Mexican-Kurdish reality television personality, politician , philanthropist , human rights activist , conference speaker, and author .

Early life and education

Hanna is from Tijuana but was born in San Diego .

Her father's family name is Jaff. This is Kurdish and belongs to the Jaff tribe , who are known for their political involvement in the government of Kurdistan since 1114. Mohamed Pasha Jaff, her great-great-grandfather, was a pasha, a title of nobility, appointed by the Ottoman Empire in the early 1700s . She is a direct descendant of Lady Adela, Osman Pasha Jaff, Mahmud Pasha Jaff. Jaff's father is a real estate developer and board member of North Bank Iraq, the son of Dawood Fattah Al Jaff (also remembered as Dawood Beg Jaff), the largest real estate owner in Kurdistan and leader of the Jaff tribe . Her mother's family name is Bosdet, who emigrated to Mexico from France . She is the great-granddaughter of Carlos Henry Bosdet, who was the first person to bring and install the phone in Mexico.

Jaff holds a master's degree in international relations from Harvard University and a bachelor's degree from National University, California . She also studied at Columbia University in New York , at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey, and at La Sorbonne University in Paris . In March 2014 she was awarded an honorary doctorate for her humanitarian work by the Claustro Coctoral in Mexico .

Politics and activism

Since 2013, Jaff has served as Ministerial Advisor for Relations with Civil Society, Ministerial Advisor for Immigrants, Secretary General for Social Management of the Youth Network for Mexico, and National Secretary General of Revolutionary Youth Expression in the Institutional Revolutionary Party . She was a Federal Congresswoman for the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico and Tourism Ambassador for Morelos State , Mexico.

Jaff is an immigrant and refugee activist and she frequently offers assistance in Iraqi refugee camps, where she teaches English and has donated thousands of her English language books. In 2013, she organized the first Kurdish festival in Mexico, the largest ever held outside of Kurdistan , and it was attended by 80,000 people in four days. Jaff speaks at international conferences on topics such as human rights, immigrants, refugees, peace and the importance of education, primarily to raise awareness and motivation. Jaff has been a speaker at over 80 universities, schools and institutions around the world. In 2017 she was TED spokesperson twice at TEDx Nishtiman in Erbil , Iraq and TEDx Ciudad de Puebla in San Andres Cholula, Mexico.

Jaff is the founder of the Jaff Foundation for Education, a nonprofit, founded on June 4, 2013. The foundation has hosted more than 200 charitable events worldwide, serving more than 120,000 people. Their mission is to teach English to immigrants, refugees, and the less fortunate, to campaign for non-discrimination, and to focus their attention on world peace and education. Today the foundation has locations in 18 different states in Mexico and has more than 7,000 active volunteers . Since 2014 she has been the "honorary representative of Garmiyan Kurdistan for Latin America " and she has received six other awards for her humanitarian work from the Kurdish government of Garmiyan state; "Woman of the Year" from the National Chamber of Women; "30 under 30" of the most successful Mexicans under 30 by Entrepreneur magazine ; “One of the 200 leaders of tomorrow under 30” from the St. Gallen Symposium in Switzerland; "Person of the Year" from El Sol de México newspaper. Jaff has written three books for learning English: for Spanish , Purepecha (native language in Mexico) and Kurdish speakers . She has donated 22,000 of her English books to immigrants, refugees and the less fortunate. Jaff explains that she has kept a diary and wish list since she was 14. She writes quotes and poetry inspired by the people and events in her life.

We Are One Campaign

On October 15, 2017, Hanna started the clothing line We Are One Campaign . It is a worldwide peace movement without discrimination that aims to eliminate hatred, bullying and division. Regardless of political, religious, sexual orientation, skin color, gender, disability, socio-economic and cultural differences, to use clothing to convey awareness and messages of respect, unity and tolerance. With every item purchased, We Are One Campaign donates an item to refugees, immigrants or the less fortunate.

Reality television

In August 2018, Netflix announced the first reality TV show Made in Mexico , in which Hanna will be one of the nine actors. It will be broadcast in 190 countries and 22 languages. She is portrayed as a passionate philanthropist who runs the Jaff Foundation. The series starts on September 28, 2018.

Private

Jaff is engaged to Henry Roper-Curzon, a British aristocrat and heir to the title of Lord, 22nd Baron of Teynham .
