Hans-Dieter Krebs

Hans-Dieter Krebs (born January 2, 1932 in Heidenheim an der Brenz ; † May 29, 2016 ) was a German publicist , journalist and historian .

Life

Krebs studied modern history and sociology at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg , then also journalism at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Free University of Berlin, and as a Cusanus scholar at the Catholic University of Leuven . In 2001 he received his doctorate in sports science from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . He was licentiate in Political and Social Sciences (1966 Catholic University of Leuven ).

Krebs began his journalistic activity in Würzburg ( Fränkisches Volksblatt , department head 1962/63). From 1967 to 1974 he worked for Sport-Informations-Dienst Düsseldorf, most recently as deputy editor-in-chief. After that he was deputy head of the central sports department of Deutsche Welle in Cologne until 1995 .

For ARD, Krebs reported on Olympic and sport- political events, such as the award of 16 Olympic Games, numerous meetings of the IOC and conferences of German sport. He lectured at the 1972 Olympic Science Congress in Munich, at the 1994 Olympic Congress in Paris, of which he was a member of the preparatory commission, and at the 100th IOC session in 1993 for the opening of the Olympic Museum.

From 1968 to 1993, Krebs gave lectures and seminars for sports journalism at the German Sport University in Cologne as a lecturer . He gave guest lectures at the Universities of Karlsruhe, Bonn, Paderborn and the Texas A&M in College Station. As part of development aid, he led sports journalism seminars in Lagos (Nigeria), Tunis, Seoul and Madras as well as in Berlin .

In 1950, Krebs brought basketball to Würzburg, was a referee (a German final), held various functions in Bavaria and in the German Basketball Federation, and from 1995 to 2011 he was chairman of the archive and documentation commission.

In 1994, Krebs was awarded the Ludwig Wolker plaque by the DSB for his commitment to ethos and human dignity in sport.
