Hans-Jürgen Wolff (born May 30, 1958 in Helmstedt ) is a German administrative lawyer and former head of the Federal President's Office .

Life

Wolff did his military service with the Fernspähkompanie 100. He acquired the parachute jumper badge in silver and the Dutch jumper badge with the Corps Commandotroepen. He then studied law in Saarbrücken, Munich, Bonn and Oxford. After passing the state examinations in law , he received his doctorate with a thesis on international law. At the beginning of 1989 Wolff joined the constitutional law department in the Federal Ministry of the Interior and at the beginning of 1991 switched to the economic department of the Federal Chancellery , where he was entrusted with questions of European law and European economic and monetary policy. From there he was seconded to the State Chancellery of Saxony-Anhalt for 18 months in 1992 as head of the department for economic policy and fiduciary matters. From 1995 Wolff headed a number of presentations in the domestic department of the Federal President's Office. From 2006 he was head of the domestic department until he took over the vacant position from State Secretary Gert Haller in October 2009 .

His administration was considered controversial and is said to have led to the departure of numerous employees from the office, which in turn caused Horst Köhler to become tired . On July 5, 2010, a few days after taking office, the new Federal President Christian Wulff , who “brought” the head of his State Chancellery with him as the new State Secretary, put Wolff into temporary retirement. He used this u. a. (under a pseudonym) for writing an autobiographical novel. The minutes of a blog he ran for a year also give an insight into Wolff's world of thought.
