Michael Jansen (State Secretary)

Michael Jansen (born January 16, 1941 in Athens ) is a German lawyer , government official, diplomat and manager .

Life

His father was a diplomat. Jansen also joined the Foreign Office after studying law in Bonn , Cologne and Washington . The 1968 to 1969 he spent in Paris at the School of Administration ENA as a DAAD - scholarship . He has worked in Spain , Brussels and Venezuela . Under Hans-Dietrich Genscher , he headed the ministerial office of the Foreign Office.

In 1990 he joined Degussa as a general representative for international corporate tasks . During this time, the Frankfurt- based company opened its archive to answer questions about its role in the Third Reich. In 2000 he became chairman of the board of the “Remembrance, Responsibility and Future” foundation .

On July 1, 2004, Federal President Horst Köhler appointed him State Secretary and Head of the Office of the Federal President. In this capacity he had the permanent right to attend all cabinet meetings of the federal government . Upon reaching the age limit of 65, Jansen left office on March 1, 2006. His successor was Gert Haller .

In 2008, Jansen was named by the Federal Chancellor to chair the board of trustees of the “Remembrance, Responsibility and Future” foundation. Since 2009 Jansen has been chairman of the board of trustees of the "German-Israeli Future Forum" foundation.
