Hans-Peter Steinrück (* 27. January 1959 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian physicist who deals with surface science busy (Surface Science).

Live and act

Steinrück studied physics at the Graz University of Technology and received his doctorate there in 1985 with a thesis on the microscopic reversibility of adsorption and desorption processes. In 1985/1986 he worked as a post-doctoral student at the Department for Chemical Engineering at Stanford University and investigated the adsorption and reaction behavior of small molecules on single crystal surfaces using molecular beam methods. He then moved to the Technical University of Munich, where he completed his habilitation there in 1992 on the electronic structure, symmetry and band structure of simple hydrocarbons on metals. In 1993 he received a professorship for experimental physics at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg and has held the chair for Physical Chemistry II at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) since 1998 . At FAU, he was dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences II from 2003–2005 and vice-president from 2006–2011. From 2009 to 2015 he was visiting professor at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC).

Steinrück works in the field of surface research at the interface between chemistry and physics. Focal points are in situ - investigations of surface reactions, ionic liquids, redox-active porphyrins, liquid-metal catalysts, organic liquid hydrogen storage molecules and the chemical modification of the graph. A large number of spectroscopic and microscopic methods are used to investigate these questions. T. using synchrotron radiation .

He is a member of various German and foreign scientific societies and editor of the journal Surface Science . He presented his results to the scientific public in more than 230 lectures and published over 350 scientific papers together with his group.

Memberships

Steinrück has been a member of the Chemical Sciences Section of Academia Europaea since 2012, Corresponding Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) abroad since 2015, Member ( Matriculation No. 7682 ) of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina since 2016 and a member of European since 2018 Academy of Sciences (EurASc). In 2013 he was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) and in 2017 a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
