Hans Bauer (born March 14, 1941 in Ufhoven ) is a German author and former public prosecutor and deputy attorney general in the GDR .

Life

Bauer and his sister were raised by their mother, the father died early. After attending school from 1947 to 1959 and graduating from high school, Bauer volunteered for two years of military service with the NVA , which he performed in Prora . During his military service, Bauer signed up for the GDR State Security as an unofficial employee under the code name "Leonhard". He then studied law at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1961 to 1965 . After graduating as a qualified lawyer , Bauer worked as an assistant from 1965 to 1966. From May 1966, Bauer worked as a public prosecutor in the GDR judiciary . From 1973 to 1978 Bauer completed a distance learning course at the party college "Karl Marx" , which he graduated as a social scientist. From 1971 onwards, Bauer worked as a public prosecutor in the GDR public prosecutor's office , most recently as a deputy public prosecutor .

From 1982 to 1985, Bauer worked in Aden as an advisor to the Attorney General of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen . He has also participated in international congresses on crime prevention and worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on human rights matters.

Helmut Irmen wrote about him:

“There were unofficial employees and informers of the Stasi at the public prosecutor's office in the GDR. The IM 'Leonhard' acted as party secretary of the SED at the GStA. From 1982 to 1985 the MfS used him for special tasks. Later there was continuous cooperation. 'Leonhard' had already committed himself to the MfS in 1960 when he was serving in the NVA. 'Leonhard' is about Hans Bauer, who most recently worked as Deputy Public Prosecutor of the GDR. "

In the course of the political change, Bauer was dismissed from civil service in 1990 . He was then unemployed before he was admitted to the bar in 1992. Since 1993 he has been working as a lawyer in Berlin in the areas of criminal , traffic , labor and family law.

In 1993 he was a co-founder and has been chairman of the Society for Legal and Humanitarian Support since 2005 . The political scientist Eckhard Jesse stated that this organization is about primitive GDR apology.

Since 2008, Bauer has also been Vice President of the East German Board of Trustees of Associations . Bauer had been married since 1965 and has two children. His wife Gisela died in 2006. Bauer lives in Berlin.

Bauer is co-author and editor of several publications defending the GDR. He is a member of the Communist Platform in the Left Party .
