Hans Högn

Hans Högn (born June 8, 1904 in Hof (Saale) ; † May 22, 1980 ibid) was a German politician of the SPD . From 1950 to 1970 Högn was Lord Mayor of the independent city of Hof.

Live and act

Högn did an apprenticeship as an optician and attended courses in economic, social and cultural policy at the Tinz Workers' College . In 1933 he was taken into protective custody for his work in a number of social democratic newspapers. After he was temporarily unemployed, he worked as a technical employee, in World War II he was a soldier and finally a sergeant major. From 1945 on he headed the municipal welfare office in Hof, two years later he was appointed party secretary of the SPD, and from 1949 he was its local chairman for several years. On July 7, 1948 he was first elected honorary deputy mayor, and on January 19, 1950, he was elected Lord Mayor of Hof, a position he held until his retirement in 1970.

Only a few months after his election as head of the city, he was also elected to the Bavarian state parliament. From 1950 to 1966 he represented the constituency of Hof / Saale-Stadt and Land there as a directly elected member. In the 4th electoral term from 1958 to 1962 he held the office of first vice-president. He was also a member of the 3rd Federal Assembly in 1959 . After the end of his term of office as Lord Mayor, Högn was made an honorary citizen of the city of Hof in 1970. He had already received the Bavarian Order of Merit on January 16, 1960.
