Hans Heinrich von Weymarn ( Russian : Иван Иванович фон Ваймарн; * July 19, 1718 in Lööne , on Ösel , Livonia ; † March 22, 1792 in Wolmarshof on Ösel) was a German-Baltic nobleman , Russian general and minister .

Career

On May 31, 1737 his military career began in the St. Petersburg Cadet Institute . In 1740 he left this cadet corps with the rank of adjutant . He then served as a consultant in Russia and was called in to secret conferences. Under Prince Repnin , he performed his next service in the Russian auxiliary troops that were deployed in Prussia . In 1757 he moved to Prussia with the army as a Russian major general . From 1757 to 1758 he was Quartermaster-General , after which he was to 1762 commander of all in Siberia befindlicher troops , in this use, he joined not only as an officer, but also as a good administrator and reconnaissance in appearance. Then around 1769 he was appointed Russian Imperial Minister in Warsaw , with simultaneous supreme command of the Russian Army Corps there. His last military post was the seat on the War College . After more than 40 years he said goodbye and retired to Gut Wolmershof on the island of Ösel, which he had received as a gift from the Russian Empress Catherine II (1729–1796).

In the last years of his life he wrote several German-language works on the history of Livonia and the Seven Years War . For his writings and newspapers about the Baltic States, August Wilhelm Hupel was able to win over good Russia connoisseurs , including Hans Heinrich von Weymarn, whose reports "on the use of Russian troops in the Seven Years War" were published posthumously by Hupel . Hans Heinrich von Weymarn also wrote an essay “on a proposal for pacifying the Kazakhs ”.

Origin and family

The noble family von Weymarn is of German-Baltic descent and has been based in the Baltic States since the end of the 17th century . Hans Heinrich von Weymarn was the fifth son of the District Court Assessor Jobst (Jodocus) von Weymarn (1684–1731), who was married to Eva Sophia von Vietinghoff (1688–1761). Hans Heinrich was married to Anna Barbara von Fersen (1747–1827); their marriage was childless. His older brother was the Land Marshal of Ösel Hermann Gustav von Weymarn (1717–1771).
