Hans Jürgen Gerner

Hans Jürgen Gerner (born August 11, 1941 in Kaiserslautern ) is a German orthopedic surgeon, rehabilitation scientist and university professor and is regarded as an expert in the field of treatment and rehabilitation of people with paraplegia .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1962, Gerner began studying medicine at the Philipps University of Marburg , which he continued at the University of Innsbruck , the University of Vienna and the Georg August University of Göttingen , where he finally received his doctorate in 1967.

He completed his further training as an orthopedic surgeon at the Orthopedic University Clinic Heidelberg and the professional association accident clinic in Ludwigshafen , where he also acquired the additional qualification in "sports medicine". After his guest stay in July 1974 at the National Spinal Injuries Center of the Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury , England, he was first senior physician, then head of the paraplegia and orthopedics department at the BG Clinic Ludwigshafen and then chief physician of the Center for Spinal Cord Injuries at the Werner Wicker Clinic in Bad Wildungen . He was always on the road as a specialist for the International Red Cross , e. B. after the severe earthquake in Armenia . His scientific engagement with new therapeutic approaches for paraplegia led to his habilitation in 1990 at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen .

Gerner's reputation as an expert in the field of paraplegiology extends far beyond the borders of Germany.
