Waterloo (actually Johann "Hans" Kreuzmayr , born November 27, 1945 in Altheim , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian pop musician and pop singer . With Sepp Krassnitzer (Robinson) he formed the duo Waterloo & Robinson .

Live and act

Kreuzmayr grew up as the son of a working-class family in Linz. As a trained carpenter and businessman , he ran the women's fashion boutique Eclisse in Linz from the late 1960s to the early 1970s . When he was looking for someone to arrange the display of his shop, he met his long-time singing partner Sepp Krassnitzer . With him he founded the duo Waterloo & Robinson .

Kreuzmayr is married to Andrea, whom he met in 1999. He is the father of five children as well as the grandfather of a granddaughter and great-grandfather of a great-granddaughter.

Waterloo & Robinson

After several national successes, Waterloo & Robinson had their first major European success with Baby Blue in 1974 , followed in the same year with their first world hit with Hollywood . In 1976 they represented Austria with My little world at the Eurovision Song Contest , in which they achieved fifth place. You have been guests on the ZDF hit parade , in disco and in the evening shows by Peter Frankenfeld , Vico Torriani , Lou van Burg and Hans Rosenthal .

In 1981 the pop duo separated. From 1989 onwards there were also concerts and CDs together, but both of them always pursued their solo projects.

When both were back in the studio more and more solo from 2005, Waterloo & Robinson were still on tour together. In mid-2007 they decided to concentrate only on their solo projects live.

Waterloo solo

After separating (1981) from Waterloo & Robinson, Waterloo made it back into the domestic charts with In the Land That Is Eternal . It was followed by freedom , impossible dream , death of a dream and so a wonderful life .

He appeared several times at charity events, e.g. B. at the Nivea summer festivals for the benefit of the SOS Children's Villages and for the People for People campaign by Karlheinz Böhm .

In the early 1990s, Waterloo got the opportunity to spend some time on an Indian reservation in North America, which greatly influenced his music. This was followed by his "Indian" albums Tales of the Sun, Moon and Stars , Apaches' Land and Indio . At the time of the appearance of Indio he embodied especially in the Karl May Festival in Winzendorf the Winnetou . There he met his current wife Andrea. Since the Karl May Festival, Waterloo has appeared again and again as Winnetou in children's afternoons.

In 2005, on Waterloo's 60th birthday, he released his solo CD Im Atemzug der Zeit (as he said, as a gift to himself), and in 2006 he also released a solo Christmas CD.

In the course of the election campaign for the municipal council elections in Vienna in 2005, Waterloo appeared at the FPÖ election event , for which he was repeatedly criticized.

In 2008 he appeared in the 4th season of the ORF show Dancing Stars and made it to the 7th round at the side of professional dancer Alice Guschelbauer .

In February 2009, the joint book by Waterloo and Thomas Jeier The Secret Knowledge of the Lakota was published . In this book he depicted generosity, steadfastness, bravery, wisdom, love, respect, and humility as the Lakota ways to achieve happiness .

In 2016 he and Roberto Blanco released a new recording of the oldie Brown Bear and White Dove by Gus Backus , including a dance version.

On October 5, 2018, he was awarded the Culture Medal of the State of Upper Austria .
