Waterloo & Robinson is an Austrian pop duo consisting of Hans Kreuzmayr (Waterloo) and Josef Krassnitzer (Robinson).

history

Hans Kreuzmayr and Sepp Krassnitzer met in 1969 when Kreuzmayr was looking for an employee to design the display for his boutique. At that time both sang and played in local bands from Linz: Kreuzmayr with the Melodias, Krassnitzer with the Roosters . They decided to make music together, where they were announced as the Edward Brothers at the first appearances - in the absence of a real band name .

Waterloo & Robinson at the Eurovision Song Contest 1976

In 1971 they took you can see (a song about a blind girl) third place among the solo artists of Show Chance . This was followed by the successes of Lili's Haus, Baby Blue (the first European hit) and the world hit Hollywood, written by Christian Kolonovits . From June 1974, W&R with Baby Blue and Hollywood alternated between places 1 and 2 in the Ö3 hit parade (at the time a postcard hit parade ). Since there was no end in sight, Ö3 abolished the hit parade at the beginning of 1975 and only reintroduced it from 1980 (February 3) with changed regulations.

At the Eurovision Song Contest in 1976 they achieved 5th place for Austria with My Little World . In 1978 they shot the film Wild Land in Kenya , for which there is also an LP entitled Wild, Wild Land .

Meanwhile the success shifted more and more to Germany. When Do you remember Marianne appeared in 1979 , it went relatively unnoticed in Austria, in Germany they had achieved gold in a short time. They were permanent guests in the ZDF hit parade , in disco and in the big evening shows of Peter Frankenfeld , Vico Torriani , Lou van Burg , Hans Rosenthal etc. The lack of success in Austria led to disagreements. In 1981 the pop duo separated.

With In the land that means eternity, Waterloo quickly made it back into the charts - also in the domestic charts. It followed, freedom, impossible dream, death of a dream, so a wonderful life . In Germany he was the first Austrian to receive an award for the best German singer. Robinson also made some solo records, and at this time he was also involved in many productions by young artists. But it was much quieter around him.

After about ten years of separation, there were tentative first attempts to try again together. They performed together at a concert in 1989 and 1990. Both of them also went on solo projects: For example, Robinson was on the “Unplugged Tour” with his music colleague Donald Duncan ; Waterloo got the opportunity to spend some time on an Indian reservation in North America, which greatly influenced his music. This was followed by his "Indian" albums Tales of the Sun, Moon and Stars, Apaches' Land and Indio . At the time of the appearance of Indio he embodied especially in the Karl May Festival in Winzendorf the Winnetou . There he met his current wife Andrea.

At the concerts of Waterloo & Robinson, Native American songs alternated with the hits from the 1970s, but also with new material. In 2002 the two brought out the Maxi Na Naa, Nanana - Live Is Life (cover of the Opus hit) and landed in the Austrian charts for seven weeks, immediately after it was released as the smash hit of the week. In 2004 they achieved second place in the Austrian qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest with You Can Change the World .

In 2005, on Waterloo's 60th birthday, he released his solo CD Im Atemzug der Zeit, and in 2006 he also released a solo Christmas CD. Robinson was also doing solo projects in the studio at this time. At that time, Waterloo & Robinson were still on tour together.

In mid-2007 they decided to concentrate only on their solo projects live.

In 2015 the two reunited, but only for a while and for some special and television appearances as part of the Eurovision Song Contest held in Vienna .
