Hans War

Hans Krieg (born June 18, 1888 in Vaihingen an der Enz , † October 5, 1970 in Geretsried ) was a German ethnologist and zoologist .

Life

Krieg graduated from Heilbronn secondary school , which he graduated from in 1908. He studied medicine and zoology in Tübingen (6 semesters) and Munich (5 semesters). In Tübingen he became a member of the Germania Tübingen fraternity in 1909 . In 1914 he was in Munich with Richard Hertwig to Dr. phil. (nat.) PhD . During the First World War he worked as a military doctor . In 1920 he received his doctorate, this time in Tübingen at Martin Heidenhain , with a thesis on the papillae of the tongue of the rabbit to Dr. med.

In 1921 he completed his habilitation and was given a chair at the University of Tübingen. From 1923 to 1938 he carried out four expeditions to South America , later also to East Africa . He was director of the zoological state collection and the first director of the scientific collections of the Bavarian state in Munich. Later he was director of the Museum Alte Akademie in Munich.

Hans Krieg was the author of numerous articles and books about his travels and his scientific work. In his publications he was not only active as a narrator, but also as a draftsman and illustrator.

Hans Krieg is the great-great-uncle of the artist Tilmann Krieg .
