Hans Ludwig Schoenthal (born February 9, 1923 in Hahnenklee , Zellerfeld district , † July 10, 2002 in Berlin ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

From 1936 onwards, Schoenthal lived in Sweden for more than two years as a teenager . He graduated from high school in 1942, but was initially unable to study as a “ half-Jew ” because of the “ Nuremberg Race Laws ” . Until 1944 he was an unskilled worker at Kali Chemie , then he was forcibly recruited by the " Organization Todt ", where he was deployed in occupied France .

After the Second World War , Schoenthal became a member of the SPD in 1946. In the same year he began his studies first at the Humboldt University in Berlin , in order to then study at the Free and Technical University . From 1955 he was an administrative clerk at the Berlin State Youth Welfare Office , the Berlin Information Center and the State Center for Political Education . Schoenthal was the director of the Stauffenbergstrasse memorial and educational center . In 1977 he became the owner of a travel agency in Neukölln .

Schoenthal moved up to the Berlin House of Representatives in September 1977 , as Klaus Schütz became ambassador to Israel. In the 1979 Berlin election he was able to win the direct mandate for the Neukölln 2 constituency. In April 1983 he moved up again to the House of Representatives, as Hans-Jochen Vogel became a member of the Bundestag. Until 1989 he was a member of this parliament.

Schoenthal was a member of the German Salaried Employees 'Union (DAG), the German-Israeli Society (DIG), the German Society for the United Nations (DGVN), the Federation of People Persecuted by the Nazi Regime (BVN) and the Workers' Welfare Association (AWO).
