Hans Moser (Germanist)

Hans Moser (born January 4, 1939 in Thiersee ) is an Austrian Germanist . He deals with early New High German , language variation and medieval studies . Moser was for many years rector of the University of Innsbruck and the FH Kufstein .

Life

Moser grew up in Kufstein and went to school here. He first studied German , history and philosophy at the University of Innsbruck and later replaced history with Romance studies (French). In 1962 he received his doctorate with a dialectological work under Karl Kurt Klein . He then worked for three years in Strasbourg as a lecturer for Civilization Allemande . At the same time and in the following years he was a lecturer at the university courses in German at the University of Innsbruck in Mayrhofen . From 1965 Moser was an assistant at the German Institute of the University of Innsbruck. In 1975 he submitted his habilitation thesis on the language of the Maximilian I law firm to Johannes Erben . In 1978 he was visiting professor at the University of Augsburg and was appointed associate professor at the University of Innsbruck. In 1980 he turned down a call to the University of Passau and two years later he was appointed full professor in Innsbruck. In 1982 he turned down another appointment at the Free University of Berlin .

Act

The linguist wrote a number of mediaeval studies, especially on Oswald von Wolkenstein. However, his focus was on the German language and especially early New High German. In addition, he increasingly occupied himself with the variation of standard German and Austrian German . He is co-founder and co-editor of a Germanistic series as part of the Innsbruck Contributions to Cultural Studies and the Writings on the German Language in Austria . From 1982 to 1989 he was a member of the spelling committee of the Institute for German Language in Mannheim . From 1982 to 1985 Moser was Dean of the Faculty of Humanities in Innsbruck. He was then elected rector of the University of Innsbruck three times (1991–1993, 1993–1995, 1999–2003). From 2004 to 2008 he was dean of the philological and cultural studies faculty in Innsbruck and from 2007 to 2009 rector of the FH Kufstein. From 2013 to 2018 he was a member of the University Council of the University of Salzburg .
