Hans Munz (born August 5, 1916 in Bottighofen ; † March 4, 2013 in Amriswil ; resident in Sulgen TG ) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ) and lawyer .

Family and work

Hans Munz, son of the farmer and leading member of various farming organizations, Ernst Munz, and his wife , the farmer's leader Anna née Altwegg, devoted himself to studying law at the University of Zurich from 1936 to 1942 after completing his federal Matura , which he joined in 1946 with the Doctorate to Dr. iur. completed. He then joined Alfred Müller's law firm in Amriswil, which he later took over.

In the winter semester of 1936/37, Hans Munz became active at Neuzofingia Zurich. In the SS 1938 and 1939 as well as in the WS 1940/41 he was charged as President, in the WS 1938/39, in the SS 1939, in the WS 1940/41 and in the SS 1941 as a fencing officer.

In 1947 Hans Munz married Hanna, the daughter of master weaver Emanuel Rüger. After her death in 1982 he married Mercedes in 1984, the daughter of the electrical engineer Karl Graf. Hans Munz died in March 2013 at the age of 97 in Amriswil.

Political career

Hans Munz, who joined the Liberal Democratic Party , has been a member of the Thurgau Grand Council since 1956 , where his commitment was particularly focused on hospital and tax issues, and in 1972 he resigned. In 1967 the people elected him to the Council of States , which he also chaired between 1976 and 1977, and in 1983 he resigned. In addition, from 1960 to 1968, Hans Munz was President of the FDP of the Canton of Thurgau and secretary of the Thurgau Retail Association.

Hans Munz also sat on numerous boards of directors . During the restructuring phase in the 1970s and early 1980s, Munz held the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors at Saurer AG in Arbon . After he had not been able to maintain truck production, which is why he was caught in the crossfire of criticism, he announced his resignation from politics and business in 1983.
