Hans Ranzoni the Elder

Hans Ranzoni the Elder (born October 18, 1868 in Vienna , † June 18, 1956 in Krems an der Donau ) was an Austrian painter .

Life

Ranzoni was the son of Emmerich Ranzoni, an art critic, writer and employee of the New Free Press .

He studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and from October 1891 in Munich . In 1900 he was a member of the Künstlerhaus for a short time and belonged to the Hagenbund from 1900 to 1907 . In 1912, on the occasion of the 37th annual exhibition in the Vienna Künstlerhaus, he received a large gold state medal for his oil painting of St. Mary's Church in Budweis . After his return to the Künstlerhaus, Ranzoni was its president from 1919 to 1921 and from 1929 to 1937. During the period of the corporate state he was a member of the federal culture council from 1934 to 1938 and from 1935 also the art advisory council of the city of Vienna.

From 1944 he lived in Dürnstein and campaigned strongly for the structural preservation of this place. His work mainly includes genre, architecture and landscape images. Ranzoni the Elder was a member of the Wachau Artists Association .

In 1963 the Ranzonigasse in Vienna- Favoriten (10th district) was named after him.

His son Hans Ranzoni the Younger (1896–1991) was known as a graphic artist and especially as an ex-libris and stamp artist.
