Hans Sautter (born May 5, 1877 in Munich , † December 15, 1961 in Kassel ) was a German sculptor and university professor.

Life

Sautter studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . In 1919 he became a professor at the Staatliche Kunstgewerbeschule Kassel (today: Kunsthochschule Kassel ), in 1931 its director.

Sautter was a councilor for the SPD in the 1920s . Between 1919 and 1929 he was also for the SPD in the Kassel municipal parliament and the provincial parliament of the Hesse-Nassau province . After the National Socialists came to power, he was dismissed for political reasons in 1933 and arrested several times.

In its early phase, Sautter worked repeatedly with the architect Alois Holtmeyer , including on his judicial building in Greiz and the train station in Marburg . After the Second World War, Sautter designed the memorial in the Fürstengarten, which is dedicated to those persecuted during the Nazi era , the bomb victims and fallen soldiers. The memorial has the shape of a stone rondel with a crown of thorns inside and was inaugurated in 1953.

Sautter died in Kassel in 1961.
