Hans Schor

Hans Schor († March 1674 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian painter.

Life

Hans Schor probably came from Augsburg  and is said to have received his training as a painter in Rome . He spent his time as a journeyman at Wilten Abbey and on April 23, 1613 married Ursula Dax, a bourgeois daughter of Innsbruck, a granddaughter of the painter Paul Dax . On January 7, 1627 he received Innsbruck citizenship. He enjoyed a great reputation, was elected to the city council and was a community speaker in 1638 and city judge in 1646.

From around 1616 he was court painter in the service of the Tyrolean sovereign Maximilian III. , Leopold V. and Claudia de 'Medici and mainly created decorative works such as coats of arms, views of areas and fortifications, sundials or festive decorations, such as for the wedding of Emperor Ferdinand II with Eleonora Gonzaga in Innsbruck in 1622. He also painted portraits, religious panels and Easter graves . He made several works, including the stucco, for the Mariahilfkirche . The ceiling paintings in the dome of the Seekirchl near Seefeld are attributed to him. Throughout his life he was in close artistic contact with the master builder Christoph Gumpp , with whom he worked on numerous projects, such as the construction of the Jesuit church .

Schor died in March 1674, he was buried on March 6, 1674. He had 18 children, only a few of whom reached adulthood. Three of his sons, Johann Paul , Bonaventura and Egid , also became painters.
