Hans Speckter (born July 27, 1848 in Hamburg , † October 29, 1888 in Lübeck ) was a German illustrator, draftsman and author.

biography

Hans Speckter was the son of Otto Speckter and the nephew of Erwin Speckter . After initial training, Speckter learned from Louis Asher and Martin Gensler from Thumann and Ferdinand Pauwels . After several trips through Germany and the trip to Italy in 1876/77, he returned to Hamburg. The pictures that were shaped by his trip to Italy are among the outstanding works of his work. In his productivity he was very diverse and created the cardboard boxes for the curtain of the city theater in Hamburg, glass windows for the local patriotic society . He illustrated the house book of German poets since Claudius (edited by Theodor Storm , Leipzig 1875) and Walter Scott's Guy Mannering (1875). He was an art reviewer for the Hamburg correspondent . The plan to found a museum for Hamburg history goes back to him , which was finally implemented under Otto Lauffer . He was also a member of the Hamburg Artists' Association from 1832 .

Sick of melancholy, he died in the Lübeck State Sanatorium .
