Hans Strigl

Hans Strigl (born December 13, 1897 in Linz ; † February 17, 1956 there ) was an Austrian painter .

He is considered one of the first abstract painters in Upper Austria .

Live and act

Strigl studied Jus at the University of Innsbruck and World Trade at the University of Vienna was, by profession a regional school and teacher at the Academy of Commerce Linz .

His attention to painting began after completing his studies in 1924, whereby he trained himself as a self-taught teacher in addition to his work in school. In 1926 he became a member of the artists' association MAERZ and in 1929 went on a study trip to Albania with Egon Hofmann . From 1934 to 1938 he was a member of the Federal Culture Council, an institution of the Austro-Fascist corporate state . In 1938 and 1944 he was arrested as a resistance fighter and released from school.

In 1945 he founded the professional association of fine artists of Upper Austria , was a member and its first president until 1950, advised the city of Linz on the establishment of the Linz Art Academy in 1946/1947 and returned to teaching.

Works

Strigl initially created flower pictures and finally portraits and landscapes . At the age of 46 he painted his first non-representational picture . He endeavored to adequately implement inner experiences in an artistic form. He saw his compositions in the combination of music and visual form as objects of meditation. The expression of the immaterial should be heightened by the transparency and luminosity of the predominantly light colors.
