Johannes Paulus Franciscus Truijen (born February 13, 1928 in Surabaya , Jawa Timur , † July 9, 2005 in Klimmen , Zuid-Limburg ) was a Dutch painter and glass artist.

Life

Truijen was the son of the sculptor Marc Truijen and twin brother of the architect Emile Truijen. Hans Truijen lived in the Dutch East Indies until he was three and then grew up in The Hague . He later attended the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht , where he was taught by Jos ten Horn and Mattheus Josephus (Thé) Lau. In 1955 he graduated with summa cum laude .

Truijen's work included paintings, mosaics , murals and leaded glass windows and the workshops in which he made his windows include the Atelier Flos in Steyl , the workshop of Hubert Felix in Maastricht and the workshop Joëlle d'Alsace in Lanaken .

The windows he made for the Sint-Martinuskerk in Wyck (Maastricht) from 1966 to 1968 were both praised and received by critics with mixed reception. Here he combined old and new techniques: Using the screen printing method , he applied photos to the glass and placed them in a collage-like manner next to elements with lead glass technology.

In 1971 he designed the windows for the Savelberg monastery in Heerlen and in the 1980s for the train stations in Heerlen and Voerendaal . A remarkable example of his painting is the painting of the Romanesque Saint Catherine Chapel from the 11th century in Lemiers in 1978.

In 1997 Truijen was made a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau for his services . He died in 2005 at the age of 77.
