from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Weiß (born December 23, 1914 in Aue ; † February 6, 1984 ibid) was a German graphic artist and painter . To distinguish himself from other artists of this name, he also called himself Hans Weiß-Aue .

After attending school, Weiß became a draftsman at the drawing school for the textile industry in Schneeberg , which he later headed as a lecturer and director.

He initially got a job as a draftsman in Falkenstein / Vogtl. He later worked in Zwickau , Leipzig and Chemnitz . After the Second World War he became a teacher for art education at the adult education center in Aue and at the vocational school in Zwickau. In 1951 he went to Schneeberg.

In autumn 1945 he was one of the organizers of the art exhibition Liberated Art in Aue and in November 1945 he was one of the founding members of the local branch of the Kulturbund .

He was one of the masters who captured the Ore Mountains landscapes in pictures and who carried out numerous studies directly in nature. Above all, this resulted in numerous woodcuts that were presented to the public in several exhibitions or were printed.

From 1973 onwards, Weiß and other local artists such as Kurt Teubner , Ernst Hecker and Helmut Humann used a visual arts exhibition pavilion on the Altmarkt, where he could also offer his watercolors and woodcuts for sale. From 1993 the art gallery was given an expanded ground floor in Alfred-Brodauf-Straße.

Parts of the works by Hans Weiß are exhibited today in Schlettau Castle in the Erzgebirge Landscape Art Collection.
