Helmut Humann

Helmut Humann (born September 21, 1922 in Aue , † December 25, 1996 in Greiffenberg ) was a German painter and graphic artist, whose work is mainly associated with the Ore Mountains . After several successful years, Humann moved to Greiffenberg in the Uckermark, where he ran a private art gallery until his death.

Life

Humann first attended a commercial college in his hometown of Aue and, after completing it, completed an apprenticeship as a painter. 1944–1948 he was a prisoner of war in France, where his artistic activity began. Three years after the end of the Second World War , Humann returned to Aue in 1948, where he made his living as a freelance artist. He dedicated himself to the representation of the Erzgebirge homeland held u. a. over two years the construction of the Sosa dam . Humann initially taught script and color theory at the technical college for applied arts in Schneeberg , then took up a position as head of the textile printing department in 1959 and started his own business in 1972. Parallel to his teaching activity, Humann was artistic director of the club of youth and sports 'activist' zu Schlema .

As a senior , Humann moved with his family to Greiffenberg in the Uckermark , where he opened a private gallery in 1987 and died in 1996.

Humann was married and had a son ( Henrik Humann , 1951–2012), who began his own artistic career as a blacksmith in Schwedt an der Oder in the 1970s and maintained a jewelry gallery in this small town until 2012.

Creating art

Humann began his artistic activity with classical painting. Later he switched to works of art using the sgraffito technique and enamel work . His oeuvre includes u. a. Small works of art, interior design and exterior design. The outer facade of the Robotron research and development center in what was then Karl-Marx-Stadt , for example, was decorated in 1969 with cast aluminum elements and enamelled copper shells (dimensions 40 meters × 4 meters) based on plans by Humann. The design of the entire interior of the Little Revue in Berlin's Friedrichstadtpalast also goes back to Humann's designs. There is a small catalog of works on the Internet. The metal wall shown in the picture consists of individual cast rectangles that cover a total area of ​​around 25 × 15 meters on the house facade. They make the well-known appeal of Karl Marx in the Communist Manifesto Proletarians of all countries unite! The design comes from a Saxon artist collective, on which Helmut Humann worked. Some of the works are in the Museum Schloss Schwarzenberg . A small metal work of art that Humann made for the culture hall of VEB Halbzeugwerk Auerhammer has been hanging in the foyer of the vocational training center for economics and social affairs (former Pestalozzi school ) in Aue since 2002 .

Awards

In France, Humann was one of the prize winners for painting in Épinal in the Vosges department in 1947 . His painting exhibition in Paris was also publicly recognized.

In the GDR , Humann and other artists founded the Association of Visual Artists (VBK). His artistic work has been recognized by awarding several prizes and medals such as the Pestalozzi Medal for loyal service (1970), the FDGB art prize for the wall design behind the Karl Marx Monument (1972 in collaboration with H. Lanzendorf and H. Schuhmann), the Kurt Barthel (KUBA) art prize of the Karl-Marx-Stadt district (1974), the FDGB art prize for the design of the wind-weather wall in the Am Fichtelberg recreation home in Oberwiesenthal (1976), the SDAG Wismut art and culture prize ( 1985) for his life's work. Together with the artists LK Bogomoletz, Albert Ebert and Hans Neubert , selected works by Humann were presented internationally in the Seicento exhibition in Rome in 1957 .
