Hans Wolfgang Brachinger

Hans Wolfgang Brachinger (born October 4, 1951 in Munich ; † October 30, 2011 in Tafers ) was a German - Swiss mathematician who mainly dealt with statistics . He was a full professor for economic statistics and vice- rector at the University of Friborg in Switzerland and director of the research center for economic statistics (CEStat.ch).

Life

Brachinger studied mathematics at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Regensburg . After graduating in 1977, he was a research assistant at the Faculty of Economics at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen until 1985, and from 1985 to 1989 Academic Councilor. In 1982, he was in Tübingen with a dissertation on the frames Soft models in the field of statistics and econometrics to Dr. rer. pole. PhD . In 1989 he qualified as a professor with the work Deciding on Risk. A decision-theoretic foundation of the sensitivity-analytical approach to decision-making in the event of uncertainty for the subjects of statistics and econometrics at the University of Tübingen.

In 1989 he received a reputation as a Professor of Statistics and Quantitative Methods at the Catholic University of Eichstaett-Ingolstadt , in 1990 he became professor of statistics for psychologists at the University of Konstanz . From 1991 Brachinger was full professor and director of the Department of Statistics, Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, University of Friborg (Switzerland). In addition to his work at the University of Friborg, Switzerland, from 2008 Brachinger headed the "Bachelor's degree in Economics" at the University Distance Learning Switzerland institution.

Brachinger was visiting professor at Haverford College, Pennsylvania, USA (1984), at the University of Dortmund (1995), at the Philipps University of Marburg (1997–1998) and at the University of Zurich (1999–2001).

Brachinger was also involved at the University of Friborg and was vice-dean from 1992 to 1999 and vice-rector from 1999 to 2003. From 2001 Brachinger was chairman of the expert committee of the “Gerhard Fürst Prize” of the Federal Statistical Office of the Federal Republic of Germany and from 2004 president of the Swiss commission for federal statistics . Furthermore, from 2007 Brachinger was the editor of the scientific journal AStA Economic and Social Statistics Archive of the German Statistical Society . From 1996 to 2002 he was President of the Swiss Society for Economics and Statistics . He was a member of numerous scientific societies such as the International Statistical Institute . From 2001 he was an honorary member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Teutonia Friborg in the CV .

In 2007 Brachinger founded the Research Center for Economic Statistics (CEStat.ch) in Freiburg im Uechtland , which advises companies on statistical issues.

In 2009 Brachinger was naturalized in Tafers .
