family
He came from an old Meißen noble family with the same family name Auerswalde (today a district of Lichtenau in the district of Central Saxony ), which is first mentioned in documents in 1263, and was the son of the royal Prussian landlord Hans Jakob von Auerswald (1757-1833).
Auerswald married on October 16, 1832 in Königsberg ( East Prussia ) the widowed Auguste von Bardeleben (born August 24, 1809 at Gut Rienau ; † November 10, 1844 in Königsberg), the daughter of the royal Prussian Landwehr inspector Karl Alexander von Bardeleben , landlord on Rienau as well as old and new Kingitten , and Dorothea Prenzel .
His brother was the Prussian Prime Minister Rudolf von Auerswald (1795–1866).
Life
Auerswald studied law and camera science at the University of Königsberg from 1810 to 1813 . In January 1813 he volunteered in the 2nd West Prussian Dragoons Regiment, fought in the battles near Großbeeren , Dennewitz and Leipzig and took part in the campaign in Holland as a lieutenant. In 1841 he was appointed colonel of the Lithuanian dragoon regiment , in 1846 as brigade commander in Neisse and in 1848 transferred to the same position in Breslau .
Despite his Prussian-military position, he was a conversation partner valued by the liberal opposition politicians in the German Confederation , which in 1847 earned him an appointment to the honorary council of the Deutsche Zeitung . From May 20, 1848 he was a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly as a representative for Rosenberg and acted as chairman of the committee for people's armament and army. Auerswald belonged to the constitutionally liberal casino group
When left-wing nationalist riots broke out in Frankfurt after the vote on the Malmö armistice on September 18, 1848 ( September riots ) , Auerswald and Felix Fürst Lichnowsky were attacked by insurgents in front of the Friedberger Tor and immediately killed by a pistol shot.
Shortly before, Auerswald had lost his wife. For the children he left behind, four sons and one daughter, a national collection was organized across Germany. He was buried in the Frankfurt main cemetery (grave location: Gewann E, 243).
