Hansi Dujmic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hansi Dujmic (born December 30, 1956 in Vienna ; † May 21, 1988 there ; actually Davor Ljubomir Johannes Dujmic , as an artist also Dew Mitch ) was an Austrian musician and actor.

Life

Childhood and youth

His mother Margit studied opera singing in Vienna. However, due to her Jewish origins, she was unable to practice her profession. In 1943 she met the journalist Adolf Dujmic, son of a railway worker from the Bosnian Konjic, in Pressburg . A year later they married and their daughter Drina was born; twelve years later, shortly after emigrating during the Hungarian uprising , Davor was born in Vienna- Simmering .

His childhood was marked by frequent family moves. He started playing the guitar at the age of twelve. At 14 he dropped out of school and attended the music academy, where after just one year he received a scholarship for the classical guitar. At 17 he founded his first band, followed by his first appearance on the show Ohne Maulkorb . He turned down a record deal in Munich, however, because he was unable to move due to his personal circumstances.

In 1973 he spoke to Wolfgang Ambros at a concert , who spontaneously brought him onto the stage.

Career

In 1977 he took a job as a guitar teacher and married Olga Katharina, who was seven years older than him, but this relationship broke up after four years. Depression and odd jobs followed until he became addicted to heroin in 1979 . In 1980 he went into withdrawal at the Vienna General Hospital and then went to live with friends in Israel for three months. On the day of his return, he met the single English teacher Brigitta Bauer. This relationship was very turbulent, the couple separated repeatedly and then married in 1986. Dujmic dedicated some of his songs to her.

In 1980 he founded the band Chaos de Luxe , and the offer to record a single followed. However, this project Living in Peace was not a commercial success. In 1981 he went on tour as a guitarist with Peter Cornelius . With Wolfgang Ambros as producer, he recorded his first album, Hansi Dujmic . He finally made his breakthrough as a singer and actor on September 12, 1985 at the Wiener Schauspielhaus ( Theater im Kopf ) with the musical Elvis , directed by Michael Schottenberg and Julia Stemberger played the role of Priscilla. Shortly afterwards he recorded the duet Too tired with Schottenberg's wife Maria Bill .

Grave of Hansi Dujmic

Despite his great success, Dujmic was plagued by self-doubt and depression, and the sensitive musician also had to fix his acting image as "Elvis" and later as a pimp (Viennese " Strizzi "). Professionally, he celebrated his greatest success in 1986 with the song Delivered , which reached the top 10 in the Austrian singles charts, and in 1987 with the role of Sir in the Tatort Superzwölfer . That year he was also on stage at the Nestroy Festival at Liechtenstein Castle . In 1988 he released a new album, Heartbreak Avenue , now under the new stage name Dew Mitch . However, he suffered from insomnia and couldn't cope with the pressure to succeed. He started therapy, withdrew and gave up drinking. After an argument with his doctor, he discontinued therapy and turned to drugs again.

death

24 hours before his death, Dujmic was discharged from the Vienna polyclinic after brief outpatient treatment for (fake) tablet poisoning (alcohol plus Valium ) . On the morning of May 21, 1988, the body of the musician (only identified 24 hours later) was found in the 15th district of Vienna in front of the house at Jadengasse 4 in the passenger seat of a parked van , a second dead person, a long-time friend of Dujmic, Johann W. , was lying on the sidewalk not far from it. The only survivor of the previous drug night and heroin procurer , Alfred K., stated that at the meeting Dujmic and his acquaintance, both drunk, had sniffed heroin (not injected, but), but that they were in good shape than Krainz before House in Jadengasse left the van. Five hours later, he saw Dujmic's acquaintance lying motionless on the street and then called the ambulance anonymously by telephone; Dujmic himself was unknown to him. For failure to provide assistance , Krainz was later conditionally sentenced to five months. The suspicion expressed by the widow days after the death that her husband had committed suicide was not confirmed by representatives of the investigating security agency.

Hansi Dujmic was buried in the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 33A, Row 1, Number 1).

After his untimely death Don't Say No became number 1 in the Austrian singles charts as his fans' anthem. His last TV role as a gangster ( Django ) in the Tatort Blinde Angst , which was shot just two days before his death , was also broadcast posthumously.

In 2020, 32 years after his death, Hansi-Dujmic-Gasse in Vienna-Simmering was named after the artist.
