Harald Schrapers, chairman of the Game of the Year jury

Harald Schrapers (* 1964 in Duisburg ) is a German games critic and journalist. He is chairman of the game of the year association .

Professional background

Harald Schrapers graduated from high school Adolfinum Moers and then studied political and social sciences at the University of Duisburg . Since 2000 he has been working as the press spokesman for Kerstin Griese, member of the Bundestag . Since 2010 he has also been responsible for press and public relations work for Stefan Zimkeit , member of the NRW state parliament .

Harald Schrapers is a part-time specialist journalist for board , card and parlor games . Since 2009 he has been a freelancer for the specialist magazine spielbox , which is published in German and English , and he has also written a number of game reviews for the Thüringer Allgemeine (2006-10) and Die Zeit (2010-13).

Journalistic activities

From 1989 to 1999 Harald Schrapers was the editor in charge of Niederrhein Magazin , the magazine of the Juso district of Niederrhein. His first game reviews could be read here from 1991, which are available on the Internet from 1993 via file server and from 1996 on the World Wide Web . At the address www.gamesweplay.de he published well over 1000 reviews. Here you can also find the reviews that he wrote for the player magazine Fairplay before he switched to spielbox .

From 1990 to 1996 Schrapers was part of the editorial team for the workbooks: Journal of the Juso University Groups. From 2004 to 2017 he was a member of the editorial board of the political debate magazine Berliner Republik .

Harald Schrapers runs the " Horst-Schimanski -Homepage", which he launched in 1996, and the associated Facebook page. He is "a kind of Schimanski archivist," wrote the Süddeutsche Zeitung .

voluntary work

In 1986 Harald Schrapers was elected chairman of the General Student Committee (AStA) at the University of Duisburg. From 1988 to 1990 he was a member of the governing body of the Juso university groups , the federal coordination committee. From 1990 to 1994 he was a member of the Juso Federal Committee. From 1994 to 1996 he was district chairman of the Jusos Niederrhein and until 2000 a member of the district board of the SPD Niederrhein. From 1997 he was a member of the board (Bureau) of the European Young Socialists (ECOSY) for two years , in 1999 he was deputy chairman (vice president). Schrapers has been a member of the board of directors of the Willy Brandt Center Jerusalem , of which he is a founding member , since 1997 .

From 2008 to 2011 Harald Schrapers was an advisory board member of the Children's Game of the Year jury . In 2017 he became a member of the ten-person jury of critics that decide on the game of the year and the expert game of the year . Since July 2018 he has been the chairman of Spiel des Jahres eV, which is currently an association of 14 German-speaking game journalists and critics.
