Harald Weyel
Harald Weyel (born August 30, 1959 in Herborn ) is a German economist and politician ( AfD ). He is a member of the 19th Bundestag .
Career
Weyel is the son of a black American GI and a cook from the Westerwald . A year after he was born, the father left the family and returned to Raleigh , North Carolina . Weyel grew up in Herborn, began an apprenticeship as a mechanic and then passed the Abitur in Marburg an der Lahn. He studied geography , Romance studies , economics and social sciences in West Berlin , Marburg and Oldenburg . In 1987 he graduated as Dipl.- Economist and then worked in the public sector . In 1993 he was awarded a PhD with a thesis on the decolonization of Belize. rer. pole. obtained his doctorate and held a professorship for “General Business Administration, Foreign Trade and Technical Language English” at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences from 1997 to 2000. There he was then appointed a professorship for business administration .
Before the European elections in 2009 he joined the party " Free Voters " and in 2013 he joined the AfD. He is the only Afro-German federal politician in the party. Weyel was stripped of immunity in January 2018 and again in November 2018 to allow disciplinary proceedings to be carried out, which were suspended in June 2020.
Harald Weyel is divorced and has one child.
politics
Weyel moved into the 19th Bundestag via the AfD state list of North Rhine-Westphalia (list position no. 3). Weyel is chairman and full member of the committee for the affairs of the European Union as well as deputy member of the committee for economic cooperation and development of the 19th German Bundestag. He is Deputy Chairman of the US Parliamentary Group in the German Bundestag.
After his election to the Bundestag in 2017 , the weekly newspaper Die Zeit wrote : “Within the AfD, Harald Weyel has hardly attracted any attention so far. All the more drastic he stages himself on Facebook . ”He shares sexist posts in which women are assumed to have a genetic lack of intelligence . Weyel called the concrete barriers used to protect events from terrorist attacks a “memorial for Germans and their friends who have not yet been killed”.
As his policy fields at WDR for the coming legislative period he named "foreign trade policy, including EU and development aid".
In order to cope with his mandate tasks and support his parliamentary work, Weyel hired employees from the right-wing extremist milieu - like eighteen other members of his parliamentary group - after research by Zeit Online : His colleague Erik Lehnert was the managing director of the Institute for State Policy , a think tank of the New Right , and a member of the board of trustees the new right Titurel Foundation, whose financier has acquired a house for the Identitarians in Halle .
Harald Weyel has been a member of the Franco-German Parliamentary Assembly since 2019 .
Harald Weyel is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Desiderius Erasmus Foundation .
