Harold Robert Aaron

Harold "Hal" Robert Aaron (born June 21, 1921 in Indiana , † April 30, 1980 in Fort Belvoir , Virginia ) was an American Lieutenant General in the US Army .

Life

After attending school, Aaron began his officer training at the US Military Academy at West Point , which he graduated in 1943. During World War II he took as a lieutenant (Second Lieutenant) and company commander of 259 Infantry participated in various applications in the European theater of war. After the war it found various uses in the Pacific and also took part in the Korean War. In 1953 he was a graduate of the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) at Fort Leavenworth and, after various other posts, earned a Master of Arts (MA) from Georgetown University in 1960 . After serving in the office of Assistant Secretary of Defense from 1961 to 1963 , he graduated from the National War College at Fort Lesley J. McNair in 1964 and also received a Doctor of Philosophy ( Ph.D. ) from the 1964 Georgetown University. This was followed from 1964 to 1965 use as aide-de-camp of the 8 US Army the commanding general ( Eighth US Army ) , General Hamilton H. Howze .

1965 Aaron was Colonel (Colonel) and was until 1967 the office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff worked, what it the first Legion of Merit was awarded. He then became in 1967 commander ( Commanding Officer ) of the Army Special Forces Command (Airborne Troops) USASFC ( Special Forces (Airborne) ) belonging to 1st Special Forces Group and was honored for his outstanding achievements with a farther Legion of Merit. In 1967 he took over the post of commander of the 5th Special Forces Group until 1969 and was awarded the Army Distinguished Service Medal , the Bronze Star Medal , two Air Medals and the Combat Infantryman Badge for his services during the Vietnam War . Subsequently, he served as deputy commander of the 8th Infantry Division from 1969 to 1971 ( 8th Infantry Division ) and from 1971 to 1972 as chief of staff of the Federal Republic of Germany stationed V Corps ( V Corps ) before he 1972-1973 as Major General (Major General) was Deputy Chief of Staff for US Forces Intelligence in Europe. For the services there he was awarded a third Legion of Merit.

After his return to the United States acted Aaron 1973-1977 in the War Office ( US Department of the Army ) as deputy chief of staff for intelligence and developing a second time was honored with the Distinguished Service Medal. He then worked as a lieutenant general (Lieutenant General) between 1977 and 1979 Deputy Director of Military Intelligence ( Defense Intelligence Agency ) and representatives of General Lieutenant Eugene F. Tighe . He also received the Defense Distinguished Service Medal for his services there .

After retiring from active military service, he moved in 1979 to the private sector and served as Chief Scientist at the technology company TRW Inc. operates. His marriage to Marianne H. O'Donoghue on January 16, 1944 at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City had seven children. After his death he was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
