Harrington is a small town with a status of City in Lincoln County in the US state of Washington . As of the 2010 United States Census , Harrington had 424 residents. It was named after WP Harrington, a Colusa, California banker who invested heavily in the local properties. The city's motto is “Where life is good and people care” (Eng. For example “Where life is good and people care”).

history

Harrington was first settled by Adam and Jacob Ludy in 1879. The city was officially recognized as such on April 17, 1902.

The Harrington Bank Block & Opera House has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since October 2, 1992 .

2010 Census

As of the 2010 census , there were 424 residents, 184 households and 119 families in Harrington. The population density was 430.8 per km ². There were 219 housing units at an average density of 222.5 per km².

The population was 92.7% white , 0.9% African American , 3.5% Indian , 0.7% other "races" and 2.1% two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 2.8% of the population.

Of the 184 households, 25% had children under the age of 18, 52.2% were run by married couples living together , 9.2% by single mothers and 3.3% by single fathers; 35.3% were non-families. 32.6% of the households were singles and 15.2% were single people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 2.3 and the average family size was 2.87 people.

The median age in the city was 46.1 years. 22.4% of the population were under 18, 5.9% between 18 and 24, 18.9% between 25 and 44, 29.2% between 45 and 64 and 23.6 65 years or older. 47.4% of the population were men and 52.6% women.

Census 2000

As of the 2000 census , there were 426 residents, 187 households and 115 families in Harrington. The population density was 432.8 per km ². There were 235 housing units at an average density of 238.8 per km².

The population was 97.18% whites , 1.41% Indians , 0.23% Asians , and 1.17% two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 0.94% of the population.

Of the 187 households, 27.3% had children under the age of 18, 51.9% were run by married couples living together and 7% by single mothers; 38% were non-families. 36.4% of households were singles and 15% were single people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 2.25 and the average family size was 2.92.

The median age in the city was 43 years. 25.6% of the population were under 18, 4.2% between 18 and 24, 22.3% between 25 and 44, 25.1% between 45 and 64 and 22.8 65 years or older. There were 100 men for every 100 women, and 98.1 men for every 100 women for over 18-year-olds.

All information on median income relates to the median. The median household income was US $ 29,792 and that of families was US $ 45,000. Men had a median income of US $ 30,625 compared to US $ 16,563 for women. The per capita income was US $ 17,744. About 3.8% of families and 12% of the total population lived below the poverty line ; this affected 7.7% of those under 18 and 7.7% of those over 65.
