Act

From 1989 Göbel built a special outpatient clinic for migraines , headaches and neurological pain disorders at the Clinic for Neurology at the University of Kiel. In 1992 he carried out the first representative nationwide population-based study, which broke down the epidemiology of migraines and headaches in Germany and addressed the individual problem of suffering as well as the social effects.

This gave rise to the motivation for setting up a specialized migraine and headache outpatient clinic as well as intensifying training in pain therapy at Kiel University Hospital. In 1994, Göbel initiated and organized for the first time an interdisciplinary lecture series on the therapy of chronic pain at the medical faculty. In 1997 he founded the Kiel Pain Clinic as the world's first neurological-behavioral pain clinic for the cross-disciplinary and cross-sectoral specialized treatment of migraines, headaches and neurological pain disorders. Together with the Federal Association of Cluster Headache Self-Help Groups (CSG) e. V. he founded the first cluster headache competence center worldwide. In view of the sustained clinical efficiency proven by the external accompanying research with simultaneous cost reduction, nationwide health insurance companies sought to transfer the care concept to the entire federal territory. In cooperation with the Techniker Krankenkasse , Hartmut Göbel developed a nationwide integration contract for the first time for the coordinated cross-disciplinary and cross-sectoral migraine and headache treatment without restrictions due to specialist boundaries and remuneration sectors. In the meantime, almost all of the major health insurance companies and health insurance associations with contracts for integrated care have joined the care project. In 2012, the project was recognized as the best implementation of integrated care in Germany.
