Mirza Hassan Chan Esfandiari (also Hossein Esfandiary , Persian حسن اسفندیاری Hassan Esfandiari ; * 1867 in Tehran ; † February 23, 1944 ibid) was a Persian politician .

Life

Hossein Esfandiary inherited the title Sadegh el Molk (Sadiqolmolk) from his father Mohammad Esfandiary, his ancestors have been employed by the governments since Fath Ali Shah . Hossein Esfandiary married Dolleh, a granddaughter of Mirza Aqa Khan-e Nuri . His eldest son, Mirza Mehdi Khan Nasirossaltaneh, was a member of the Majlis of Kabul and governor of Kerman Province during the fourth term . His son Fathollah Khan Noury ​​Esfandiary was Chargé d'affaires in Washington, DC , from October 5, 1926 , head of the passport department in the State Department in 1933, and replaced Mirsa Ali Gholi Ansari as Chargé d'Affaires in London .

Hossein Esfandiary was trained by Mirza Lotfali Khan Sadrolafazel and Seyyed Ahmad Adib Pishavari. On the Dar al-Fonun he studied the Arabic language and Persian literature and attended some lectures in Islamic studies and hadith .

In 1886 he entered the foreign service. From 1886 to 1889 he was the deputy of Mirza Malkam Khan , envoy of Nāser ad-Din Shah to Wilhelm II. And learned the German language.

He then made a Hajj to Mecca and visited the holy places in Iraq on his return .

After his return to Tehran, he headed the Non-Neighboring States Department in the Foreign Ministry. In 1893 he was given the title Mohtashamossaltaneh . From 1894 to 1897 he had exequatur as consul general in Bombay in British India .

From 1898 he was Deputy Foreign Minister. Under Mozaffar ad-Din Shah he was court interpreter and accompanied him on his third trip to Europe as a representative of the Foreign Ministry.

In December 1906 Mozaffar signed the Qanun-e Asasi (Basic Law). Hossein Esfandiary was asked to prepare the electoral order with Sanioddowleh, Mehdi Qoli Khan Hedayat and Hassan Pirnia .

After the inauguration of the Majles, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister. In Ali Asghar Khan Atabak's cabinet , he was the head of the Interior Ministry. He then headed a delegation to Urmia to settle a border conflict with the Ottoman Empire. Mohammed Ali Shah appointed him governor of Urmia.

From 1908 to 1926 he held eight ministerial posts in various departments.

He was one of the opponents of the Anglo-Iranian treaty of 1919 , which was signed by Hassan Vosough , and moved with Sadeq Mostashar al-Dowleh, Esmail Momtazoddowleh, Morteza Momtazolmolk and Hajj Mointojjar Bushehri to Kashan in protest . They returned to Tehran on June 25, 1920 after Hassan Vosough was deposed.

During the government of Seyyed Zia al Din Tabatabai from February 25, 1921 to May 23, 1921, he was imprisoned with sixty other people.

Hossein Esfandiary was a member of the third, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth Majles. From the tenth to the thirteenth legislative period, he acted as spokesman for the Majlis .

On May 12, 1937, he headed the mission to coronate King George VI. , gave a speech in front of the House of Commons on February 22, 1937, met Albert Lebrun and was introduced to Adolf Hitler .

In 1940 he was President of the Congress held on Firdausi's 1,000th birthday and became a member of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature . He was chairman of the Iran-America Relations Society .

Hossein Esfandiary is buried in the Shah Abdol Azim Shrine .
