history
Hassenbach is located on the old salt road leading to the Kissingen saltworks . The first known documentary mention of Hassenbach comes from the year 1303. At that time the place belonged to the office of Bodenlauben and changed the fiefdoms over time. The meaning of the place name is uncertain; it can mean, for example, a place on the rushing water or indicate a ford. From 1574 to 1803 Hassenbach belonged to the Aschach office, from 1819 to the Kissingen office; from 1582 the affiliation of the place to the tithe court of Aschach is documented. From 1588, Hassenbach, which had previously belonged to the Kissingen parish, was part of the Oberthulba parish and remained so until 1924. Around 1823, the old Hassenbach church was built, in which a Pietà by Tilman Riemenschneider was erected in 1941 . From 1924 to 1956 the place was an independent local chaplaincy. In 1922 Hassenbach was connected to the power supply; the power station located in the Arzenauwiesen was taken over by the Überlandwerk in 1924. In 1924 the place got a water pipe, in 1931 the first telephone connection (located in the post office). From 1961 to 1980 the Hassenbach land consolidation was carried out. On July 1, 1972, Hassenbach became a district of Oberthulba as part of the municipal reform . In 1985 Hassenbach's new church was built.
