Hauenhof is a small settlement belonging to the district of Immelborn in the municipality of Barchfeld-Immelborn in the Wartburg district and is located about one and a half kilometers southeast of Immelborn on the left bank of the Werra .

history

The Hauenhof is a small settlement on the site of the Huwindorf settlement , which was designated as a desert as early as 1351 , which was in the fief of the Salzung Burgmannen family von Kraluck . For centuries the place was a customs office between the county of Henneberg and the Wettin Landgraviate of Thuringia , later a border town between the offices of Salzungen and Frauenbreitungen in the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen . Part of the homestead belonged to the von Stein zu Barchfeld family as a fief . In the 16th century, the Hennebergers tried to found their own salt works at the nearby “salt pond” , but they were subject to the pressure and influence of the salting pancake, which had to protect their monopoly.

Today the Hauenhof consists of six inhabited houses and some garden parcels. The center is a listed courtyard complex Hauenhof 1. Surrounded by outbuildings, the former semi-detached house stands on the high bank of the Werra. It was built in 1800. The northern half of the semi-detached house was destroyed in 1947 by a fire caused by flying sparks from a passing steam locomotive. On the opposite side of the street, a carved wooden plaque reminds of the former "Hauenhof forest restaurant". Next to it, under an old linden tree, there is a rough stone on the K 87 district road , it shows the direction to Breitungen / Werra or Immelborn.

The track system of the former Werra Railway, built on a rubble dam, runs close to the high bank . The single-track section is now part of the Süd-Thüringen-Bahn network ; the nearest stop is in Immelborn. At the Hauenhof there is an access option to the observation tower on the Pleß, which is closed to road traffic . This approximately 7 km long, non-public path leads along the restricted area of the training area of the Werratal barracks in Bad Salzungen.

In the regularly flooded by high water Werraaue at Hauenhof is the about 160 hectare nature reserve forest hole Riedwiesen in close proximity can be found here as habitats: flooding troughs (Werra), gravel bars, impact and Gleithänge, soft and riparian hardwood (in radicals ), Wet meadows, reed beds , Großseggenriede , ponds and ponds. On December 17, 1982, the first 16 hectares in the forest hole were designated as a nature reserve. Several information boards have been set up for visitors and a circular route has been laid out. 192 bird species were identified, which make the nature reserve particularly valuable - it is one of the most species-rich areas in southern Thuringia. Numerous invertebrate species, bats, amphibians and mammal species can also be observed.
