Haukur Angantýsson

Haukur Angantýsson (born December 2, 1948 in Flateyri , † May 4, 2012 in Reykjavík ) was an Icelandic chess player .

Life

Haukur Angantýsson graduated from high school in Reykjavík and then studied chemistry at the Georg August University of Göttingen until 1973 . In 1975 he became a nautical officer at the seaman's school in Reykjavík ( Sjómannaskólinn ). He then worked in several chemical and maritime-related professions.

successes

He won the Icelandic individual championship in 1976. In 1979 he won the 7th World Open in Philadelphia ahead of Arthur Bisguier , Walter Browne , John Fedorowicz , Florin Gheorghiu and Tony Miles .

For the Icelandic national team he played at four U26 chess Olympiads (also called student Olympics), namely in 1968 in Ybbs an der Donau , 1969 in Dresden , 1970 in Haifa and 1974 in Teesside on the second and third board as well as at the 1970 Chess Olympiad in Siegen on second reserve board. He played club chess in Germany in the 1970s and 1980s for the SC Tempo Göttingen and the Delmenhorster Schachklub .

Since 1981 he has held the title of International Master . His Elo rating was 2274 in May 2012 and his highest rating was 2425 in 1980.
