Haymo Rethwisch
Haymo Gustav Rethwisch (born October 9, 1938 in Hamburg ; † February 13, 2014 ) was a German entrepreneur and founder . He became known as the founder of the German Wildlife Foundation .
Life
In 1967 Rethwisch inherited boco GmbH & Co. KG, a medium-sized company for work clothing, which he managed until 1993, from his father. In 1997 he sold Boco GmbH, which has since been operating as CWS-boco International and part of the investment holding Franz Haniel & Cie. is. In 1990 Rethwisch founded the “WILDTIERLAND non-profit society for ecological landscape culture and research”, which has over 130 hectares of land that has been made available for native wild animals. In 1992, Rethwisch founded the "boco Foundation", initially endowed with 45 million marks in foundation capital, which has been operating as the German Wildlife Foundation since 1999 and aims to protect native wild animals. Rethwisch, himself a hunter in his private life , was concerned with promoting understanding between hunting and nature conservation in order to harmonize protection and use as much as possible. From 1995 the foundation built another location in Gut Klepelshagen in south-eastern Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . Rethwisch moved with his wife from Hamburg to nearby Georgenthal .
In 2004 he set up a “gourmet factory” on the estate in the Klepelshagen nature reserve , which produces meat products from Galloway cattle and wild animals. In 2005 he opened the “Wildtierland” in Klepelshagen, in the center of which is the “Deer Valley”, an area of around 100 hectares where red deer can also be observed during the day.
Haymo Rethwisch died on February 13, 2014. The property has been transferred to the foundation, which will continue its work. In 2015, the foundation's assets already amounted to € 109 million.
