action

Eric Wright, a freelance photojournalist from New York, visits his friend Danny Rollins in Los Angeles , where he used to live. Not long after, Danny steals a million dollars from drug dealer Carl Madson, a former partner of Eric. After Danny was murdered because of it without telling anyone where he hid the money, Carl extorted Eric to find the money for him.

Eric reconciles with his former girlfriend Julie, who had been mad at him until then because he abruptly left her years ago. Julie and her brother try to help Eric find the money. After Carl surprises Julie and Eric at Julie's house and finds them both in bed together, he is beside himself because he had supported Julie for a long time when she had financial difficulties with her club . Carl takes Julie hostage and tells Eric to get the money within 12 hours.

Although Eric doesn't know where the money is, he pretends to have the money and arranges a meeting with Carl on the beach. Eric brings Julie's brother to the meeting who has a rifle with him. Carl arrives to meet his bodyguard and the corrupt cop Cook, who are also armed with rifles, and the tied Julie. While Julie's brother and Carl's companion are waiting for a distance from each other up in the dunes, Carl meets Julie and Eric down on the beach. At the handover, Carl finds out the bluff and a shootout starts in which Carl is shot. Carl's bodyguard is shot dead and Cook is arrested by a patrol officer who appears.

In the end, Julie and Eric drive off Danny's motorcycle. While driving, the motorcycle begins to wobble and Eric stops at a gas station to check the tire pressure. The tires don't have proper pressure, but they don't seem flat. Eric realizes that Danny had hidden the money in the tire and the two happily drive on to Baja California .

Reviews

"Thanks to old 'friends' (including Dennis Hopper), a refined ex-dealer (Michael Paré) returns to the milieu ... moderately original, but at least decently staffed."

"The sparingly dosed information at the beginning creates a little tension, which is then lost in the rippling disentanglement and the overly simple resolution in terms of both content and style."
