Heidi Bayer (* 1987 in Kulmbach ) is a German jazz musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn , composition ).

Live and act

Bayer received an early musical education from the age of three. Then she learned classical clarinet and received the Bavarian Achievement Badge in silver before switching to jazz. As a second instrument she chose the trumpet, which was missing in the school band and on which she taught Sebastian Strempel , among others . She became a member of the Bavarian State Youth Jazz Orchestra. First she studied cultural studies at the University of Marburg . In addition, she completed a bachelor's degree as an instrumentalist at the Mainz University of Music with Axel Schlosser and Frank Wellert and at the University of Miami with Brian Lynch and Martin Bejerano. Then she studied in the master’s course “Improvising Artist” with Ryan Carniaux and Thomas Rückert at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen.

Bayer has lived and worked in Cologne since 2015. She is a permanent member of the Subway Jazz Orchestra . With her duo Bayer // Scobel she won the Folkwang Jazz Prize in 2018 . In the same year she founded her quartet Virtual Leak (with Johannes Ludwig , Calvin Lennig and Leif Berger ), whose album of the same name was released in 2020. She is a member of Sven Decker's July Quartet , for whose album Lost in Poll she also wrote most of the compositions. She also belongs to the ensemble Beyond w / Bernhardt around the electronics engineer Frederike Bernhardt and to Heiko Bidmon's Ballroom Club , but also worked with Thomas Bracht . It can also be heard on Johannes Lüttgen's album J'used and on Stefan Karl Schmid's album Pajama .

Bayer is active as a trumpet teacher and workshop lecturer and has been a full-time teacher for the subjects of trumpet, ensemble didactics and big band at the University of Oldenburg , where she leads the Unibigband, since 2019 .
